Fabulous Friday

A big thank you to our awesome parent community for the amazing lunch that was delivered to the teachers today.  Thank you!!!  Your kindness and support is very much appreciated :)

We started our morning together with the students reading to self, followed by calendar time  and our usual morning routines.  Our big grade 3 buddies then came down to our classroom and read to all of our grade one learners.  The students were all very engaged reading with their big grade 3 buddies.  We love reading & seeing our grade 3 friends.

After buddies, we took a movement and snack break.  We also talked about the weather outside. I shared one of my favorite winter stories with the class. We watched The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats on our learning tv.  We talked about the characters in the story, and discussed what happened in the story.  We also talked about where this story takes place.  A lot of the learners were not sure where the story would take place.  So we pretended to be detectives and study the front cover of the book more carefully to give us clues to where the story takes place.  We discovered that there is a traffic light and apartment building on the front cover.  This made us realize that this story takes place in a big city.  Big cities have lots of people, lots of apartment buildings, and lots of traffic lights.  Another word for big cities is an Urban Community.  Many of the students had not heard of this term before.  The learners then created pictures and sentences to describe what happened in the story.  Following our journal time, the students enjoyed some time at our learning centers.

At home this weekend, please ask your child to describe an Urban Community to you.  Please also ask your child to describe a Rural Community to you.

Thank you so much for your help and support.  Have a great weekend!

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Lai
